Why NGP VAN Conspiracy Theories Hurt Democrats and Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders came into this race promising a progressive revolution. His revolution would bring massive change to promote huge ideas in America. He’d get elected and through hard work he would bring in all these other Democrats, we’d pass legislation, we’d break up banks, we’d do all of these major things together. As a team.

Where the heck is Bernie Sanders? Right now, Sanders continues his lawsuit against NGP-VAN, and Bernie supporters here on Daily Kos and across the ‘tubes continue to bring up wild conspiracy theories about who works at NGP-VAN and allegations of corruption.

A recent diary here showed a photo of her staffers in front of a bus with an NGP-VAN sticker,  which inspired even more CT and more criticism of this vital tool.

When I read diaries that bash NGP-VAN, I know almost instantly the people who write them haven’t used the software and probably know very little about it. NGP-VAN is used by almost every candidate, top to bottom in every race in almost every state. Tying Hillary Clinton to NGP-VAN as some sort of conspiracy doesn’t hurt her; most candidates who have ever won an election in the last 6 years owe part of it to the services of NGP-VAN and the state and national party who provide it.

Even Bernie’s campaign realizes the value of that voter data, since their lawsuit claimed not having access would cost them $600,000 a day.

Let’s bash Hillary by tying her to the most popular data tool in any Democrat’s campaign! That’s the ticket! She’s so selfish she and others endorsed a product that small-town Democrats can use mostly for free with access from a state party.

Some comments have indicated we should “scrap” NGP-VAN as a vendor and do something else. It took 2 years for Daily Kos to roll out DK5 from the moment it was released, and you expect to scrap and rebuild a national data tool that can almost instantly give someone running for City Council in nowhere, Kansas a list of the homes that are in his district and their voting records with a few clicks?

Good luck with that and your billions of dollars to fund it.
