‘We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,'
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December

Oliver Herford

Good morning gardeners and welcome to the winter wonderland! Now that the garden is cleaned up nicely, and the dahlia tubers resting comfortably (I hope), it’s time to enjoy the holidays with family and friends and take a garden break.

But winter in the garden certainly gives us photographers plenty of great photo opportunities, doesn’t it?

A bare spirea turned into a graceful sculpture by hoar frost:

A snowstorm that looked like soapsuds from an overflowing washing machine:

And the light in the early mornings after the snow:

Mother Nature is quite a designer!

And even in the deep of winter, the flowers bloom.

So now’s the time to show off your best winter shots in the comments below!

And as this is the last SMGB diary before Christmas, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season!
